Tools & Materials
- Stamping Checklist
- Large craft sticks. These came colored from the craft store. ***Updated! These faded with the sun and water within a few days. If you want color, get plain wood and spray paint them and perhaps seal them.***
- Blanks of your choice. I used the Aluminum Large Mod Plaque. I chose Aluminum so it wouldn't rust or oxidize in the elements.
- Letters and Design Stamps of your choice.
- Epoxy Glue
- Gilders Paste
- Super Fine Steel Wool
- To stamp your blanks, follow the instructions in our FREE Online Class, Stamping On Metal.
- Darken the impressions using Gilders Paste. I chose gilders paste because I thought it would last longer than Sharpie ink, especially since these will get hit by the sprinklers on a daily basis.
- Immediately after applying the gilders paste, use a tissue to wipe the excess paste from the surface (leaving it in the impressions). I used steel wool to remove the excess gilders paste because I wanted a slightly brushed look. The small hands of an 11-year-old work great for this step! :)
- Use epoxy to affix the blanks to the sticks. Let them sit for 24 hours to fully cure.
- Plant your garden! Throw those ugly plastic stakes out and label your plants with your fancy handmade ones.
- Water, weed, repeat... then EAT!

Super Cute! Would be a great idea for kids to make and sell at a farmer's market in the summer.
It looks like you used the kismet set but what are the large letters? couldn't find them on the site. LOVE this look!
Those are so adorable! Where can I find a punch set in that font? I LOVE it! Do you know if leather working punches can be used for a project like this, and vise-versa? I have two sets of punches like this already, but that way I could get some of those curly-cue ones and use all three for metal- and leather-stamping. http://www.brendamichaelsburiedtreasures.com/dept-30100
We used Uppercase Kismet 1/8th and Curls Uppercase (https://www.beaducation.com/product_categories/125-shop-all-fonts). These stamps can be used on leather, and we also carry leather-specific stamps (https://www.beaducation.com/product_categories/360-leather-stamp-sets). Note that the leather stamps CANNOT be used on metal. Leather stamps are not very hard and will "squish" when used on metal. Also, our stamps are made for fairly soft jewelry-grade metals, not hard steel or any hard metals.
