My first set of pliers was a hand me down set from my mother. She taught me how to make earrings years ago. I have one set of Tronex cutters and love them, would love some more.

My first and only set of pliers are an el cheapo set by bead landing. I do have a decent set of cutters by beadsmith but they could use replacing as well.

I love new tools that and the fact that I need new tools! There is nothing like using the right tools for the right jobs!

Clara said...

The first pair of pliers I used for jewelry were stolen from my dad's tool box. Big clunky rusty things with jagged teeth that marked up my craft wire. Oh, and I used nail clippers to cut my wire too.

Unknown said...

Sadly, I'm still using the first set I got from the craft store. Not great :(

Dancing Turtle said...

My first pliers were from the Sweetwater, TN flea market. $3 per pair. Used them for many years until I tried my Swanstrom at Rio's Catalog in Motion at Tucson. Good tools are always worth the money.

My first set of pliers were really my day's old work tools, pilfered from the garage. What an upgrade these would be!

Cindy Martin-Shaw said...

When I first decided to try jewelry making, I bought the cheapest set I could find at a local beading store (don't know the brand). I remember thinking they were pricey, considering that this could be yet another hobby that didn't stick. I did stick, however, and now I realize the difference quality tools make! It seems that every new jewelry technique I learn requires a new tool, but pliers and cutters are a vital staple in the toolbox. Thanks for this offer!
