Wow, what a great giveaway this week! I can see a lot of classes that sound like fun, especially the fold-forming one.

Thanks for the chance to win!

I posted this on my FB page:

And I got so excited about the giveaway that I forgot to answer the question. The first piece I made was a three-strand bracelet for my mom. She chose the beads, and I made a three strand piece.

Wow that is an amazing giveaway!!
The first piece I made was earrings. My friend made a necklace for me and I really wanted earrings to match. So she introduced me to the bead store and showed me how to make them. That was 7 or 8 years ago, I still have the earrings and the necklace and I wear them all the time.

Besides a clover chain when I was little my first piece was when I was at high school I took metal work as a elective and we made a lopsided metal dustpan haha. We experimented with copper enameling and I loved the results and would love to get back into that and learn new skills to compliment it. I think I remember I came away with a necklace from the classes.

With macaroni and string, I made a ring,
So that would be the first thing

First piece I think was with my 7 yr old (who is an accessory fanatic). Her ears aren't pierced, so we figured out how to take pierced earrings and convert to clip-ons. We then started making clip-on earrings from scratch.

What a fantastic prize! I have just been racking my brains trying to think of my first handmade piece of jewellery...and I remembered sitting out on the grass with a bunch of friends at school, when I was about 7 or 8 years old, and we all spent our lunchbreak making daisy chain necklaces, "crowns" and bracelets, which we proudly wore for the rest of the day. I'm pretty sure I was hooked on making pretty things from that time on :)

The first piece of jewelry I had made was for Halloween and I was 8. I was dressed as a punk rocker and had turned some rainbow plastic bracelets into earrings.

My first piece would have to be a daisy chain I'm sure. I would have been pretty young 6 or 7 years old and I kept making them through high school as I'm sure a lot of girls did.

The first piece of "jewelry" I can remember making was in second grade. It was made out of a roll of life savers and yarn and kind of looked like a doll. I think they were supposed to be ornaments, but I made mine a necklace. I wore it for a long time until I broke down one day and ate the life savers.

Love Beaducation -- The first jewelry piece I made was polymer clay earrings. I did't have a clue as to what I was doing, got a pamphlet, bought the clay and other supplies and made two pairs of earrings. My sister bought a pair and I thought I was the 'bees knees'. This was about 16 years ago. Fell in love with jewelry-making and the rest as they say 'is history'.

I love Lisa's book - it's been a great help.

Love your online classes! I've taken a few and given them as gifts to both my sisters-in-law. My first piece of jewelry was a simple necklace from beads given to me by a beading friend. I was inspired to start beading by a guy in Maui who had "retired" from the real world and sold seed bead bracelets, necklaces and anklets.

The first piece of jewelry that I remember making was a plaster pin. After that, it was awhile before I made more jewelry - - friendship bracelets. :)

My first piece of jewelry was a stamped silver pendant with the 4-H logo on it that I made at 4-H camp probably 58 years ago! I still have it, too! Was I ahead of my time, or what?

Emily Moore said...

The first piece of jewelry I ever made was when I had just started working at a local bead shop, and prom was coming up and my boss asked me what I was going to wear. I told her what my dress looked like and she helped me design and make a necklace and earrings. It had a swarovski star in the middle as a pendant with a moon on each side of the star spaced out with blue-ish black faceted oval shaped beads, and the earrings had a star on one and a moon on the other. My dress was black and the top bodice had sequins that shimmered with a colors of a rainbow.

Belinda T said...

I think the first piece of jewelry I made was some seed beaded, brick stitch earrings. That's all it took and I was hooked. I just had to get every color I could, then on to peyote stitch. Now wireworking, metal working, bead stringing. I've created a monster. I can't help myself. I am...therefore, I must.

And I fell in love so bad that from being a doctor, I transformed overnight to a jewelry designer... left my job, started learning jewelry designing and am now a full time jewelry designer. Thanks Lisa!!

The first piece of jewellery I remember making was after I visited a bead shop it was with a beautiful blue glass bead which I made a necklace from. I worn it everywhere and wad so upset when I lost it in a changing room. More recently I made a silver ring in a local class it felt brilliant to have made something from a flat piece of silver.

Great competition would love to win to learn more about jewellery making
Thanks Claire x

Ok, this is surely giving away my age, but my very first piece was a Hippi love bead set to wear to "WOODSTOCK" ....
( MY DADDY WAS A POLICEMAN) who was on duty... and I got to go.... GUARDED of course, I was 14.......lol...
But the set was a necklace, bracelet, earrings, ankle bracelet, and a beaded woven halo to wear on my head....
all made with seedbeads, leather, some peace symbols, turquoise and teardrop beads from Apache teardrop mines in Arizona.
I am Cherokee, so I knew how to do some beadwork, but by the time I got finished with these, I felt like a pro...
And I felt like a MILLION dollars, because I got to go to Woodstock...
GOOD LUCK to the winner...

If you don't count the projects teachers make you do in school (preschool - string wooden beads on a string...or string cut straws and flowers to make a lei)...I'd say my first jewelry piece was a daisy chain bracelet. I ordered the book via a mail catalog, bought the beads at the local craft store, then got to making bracelets. Once I realized that I had to also buy some clasps (2nd trip to craft store), I made them for myself, my sister, and all my friends. My mom wasn't too happy, as I used a lot of dental floss. :-)

My first piece of jewelry was a necklace made from buttons and beads (from my Grandma's glass jar stash), We would put them on string wear them all day then unstring them, back in the jar , until the next visit and more fun.

When I was a kid & a neighbor of the Flintstones, I used to braid pine needles into rings. Would that count as my 1st piece of jewelry?! :)

When I was about 8, I saw a movie with Sidney Portier called "A Patch of Blue" about a blind girl who had a box with small compartments filled with beads that she would string. I just had to have one so, I made one. My mother gave me a couple of necklaces she didn't wear and I took them apart and made my very first necklace!

So excited about this weeks giveaway - 6 jewelery making dvd's!Oh can't wait to learn and share some new techniques.

My very first piece of jewelry was a macaroni necklace that I made for my mom when I was about 5. I was quite proud of that necklace, even painted the inside of the macaroni in a contrasting color from the outside. My mom has a picture of herself wearing it to some family function. Great memories!

I have also posted this on my FB page: https://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=1644145957

Funny thing is, it was never my idea to get into jewelry-making. The first piece I ever made was a beaded bookmark, because my friend wanted to make one. She was taking so long picking out her beads, while I was shopping for candles, I finally joined her and picked out some for myself. We made our bookmarks together and I was hooked!

Hey guys!
My mom still has the first piece of jewelry I can remember making - a necklace of large, round, colorful, wooden beads. She still loves wearing what I make for her!

I'm sure my first piece of jewelry was a macaroni necklace, but I really got into making jewelry as an adult and mom. Having kids gave me "permission" to embrace my inner artist! I haven't looked back since.

I remember in school making macrame bracelets and enameled copper pendants.

I think my first piece was a beaded necklace about twenty years ago and I was hooked. It wasn't until a couple of years ago I discovered working with metal and other mediums and I am again hooked on learning new stuff!

I don't remember the first jewelry item I ever made.

My mom always had me stringing or doing something else crafty.

I do remember having some peach pits and seeds with holes and from which I made a necklace.

By the way, Hellen, congratulations!!!

My first piece of jewelry that I made was a plaster bracelet that I made in art class in eighth grade. It was way too thick and heavy, but it had the chunky look that I still love today, (44 years later!)

The first piece of jewelry I made was a FIMO clay pin, a joint project with my pre-schooler. It was part of a huge collection of FIMO objects and art pieces my son made nearly 20 years ago that I still enjoy.

Play-Doh rings and bracelets made us "princesses"! LOL I discovered a rock shop in the '80s and started gluing drops into caps for earrings. . . eventually made my way into wire-wrapping,silversmithing, lampworking, seed beading, stamping and pretty much anything else to adorn us princesses-with-50-years-of-experience! : ) It's all good!

oh my, so long ago I don't recall for sure, but certainly one of the first was a bird pin made by weaving together some sort of shiny fringe-like material. I would make those and sell them to my mom's friends. Haven't seen that stuff in many years!

Congratulations to Helen! This a great contest... My first piece of handmade jewelry was a braided silver ring, as part of a summer community park & recreation jewelry-making class. It came out lopsided/flattened on one side. But I loved it. You could see what I was going for on the "good" side. I was way out of my depth with my idea, but working and making something based on idea has (and still does) attract my attention. I have been trying to get back to jewelry making for years. Never have time (and sometimes, Money) for classes and materials, the DVDs seem to be a wonderful opportunity to help start-up.

My best friend, Kim, and I made those seed bead chokers on elastic in the early 70s. We had lots and lots of them in all different colors to match our funky outfits!!

Love your website - and the classes.

Growing up in South Louisiana, we always had a lot of clover in our yard. The first piece of jewelry I made was a necklace made out of the white pom-pom looking flowers my friends and I would pick from the clover. They had long stems and we would tie them together to make necklaces! Many years later...I started making "real" jewelry, and my first piece was a mother's bracelet with pearls and silver balls! Now I like to make just about anything!!

My first piece I made was a pair of sterling silver wire earrings. I formed the wire into a free form spiral, and tapped the ends a a little, added a crystal bead. To this day they are my favorite earrings.

sorry if this posts twice - I think the first piece I can remember was a bracelet on a bead loom. Likely there was something before that - probably made of cardboard as I have always loved jewelry. By the way, I already have purchased many of your classes and love them all - you guys are great!
