DVD Box Set Winner and Riveting Rocks! Giveaway

National Craft Month is drawing to a close this week, but not before we give away more great stuff. Up for grabs this week is a winner's choice of 6 Beaducation classes on DVD! To enter the giveaway, you were asked to tell us about the first piece of jewelry you ever made. We loved reading your replies! So many of you got your start as children -- macaroni necklaces anyone? -- and have been learning and creating ever since. One lucky commenter will be able to expand his or her skills even further with this box set of classes.

And that lucky commenter is...

Kelly I.G.

I have learned a lot from your online classes, and am always excited to learn even more from your great instructors! The first piece of jewelry I made was a clover blossom bracelet in grade school, but the first real piece of jewelry was a simple pair of earrings. You have got to start somewhere, right?

Congratulations, Kelly! Please send us an email to confirm your mailing address and which 6 DVDs you would like. Click here for a full list with class descriptions. (Note: Lisa Niven Kelly's book + DVD is not eligible in this giveaway)

March ain't over yet and we have one final giveaway to round out the month: Riveting Rocks!

You will receive everything you need to add riveted metal to your jewelry -- including the class on how it's done. Never tried it? Now's your chance!

Riveting is a great way to add depth and contrast to your jewelry; I particularly like using rivets with mixed metals.

Don't be intimidated! Riveting is simply the process of joining two objects together without soldering. In her online class, Introduction to Riveting, instructor Kate Richbourg will teach you how to do it and you'll get plenty of practice on the goodies we're sending along in this prize pack:
Riveting Rocks! Prize Pack

Introduction to Riveting Class
Round Face Riveting Hammer
50-pack of Aluminum Rivets
50-pack of Brass Rivets
20-pack of Sterling Rivets
100-pack of Copper Rivets
40-pack of Antiqued Brass Rivets
1.5mm Metal Hole Punch Pliers
Large mix pack of blanks (copper, brass and silver filled)

To enter the giveaway, leave a comment telling us about what you've done to celebrate National Craft Month. Include links to your work, if you like! Spread the word about our giveaway with Facebook or Twitter for another entry.

The winner will be selected on Thursday April 5 at 10 AM and announced here on the blog, as well as on Facebook and Twitter. Check back to see if you won!

For national craft month, I up-cycled glass bottles into serving pieces and glass cabs to use in jewelry. I also created some really cool glass cabs that I now want to incorporate into many different things. I would love to master riveting to help create settings for the glass and other things I find!

I've done lots of lampwork and enameling but the neatest thing I did was donate supplies and materials to our local senior center's art program and a non profit shop called the Scrap Bin. It's a place where you can donate any kind of art and craft supplies and get things in return that you can use. If you are an art teacher etc, you can get things for free for the students!

What did I do for National Craft Month? Lemme see I played with all my beads and all my other stuff. Stared at my cuff bracelet again for the 10,000th time working on what I want to say, played with the computer..does that count?
Oh crafting. yeah. I made several of those Shambala style bracelets (I think that's what they're called) out of the most gorgeous blue and red/pinky deep vein agates. That coulda been Feb, But I think it was March. yeah it was March.

Then life got in the way w/ illness, childcare for niece & nephew & a friend's eviction/quick move,(man that sounds so 'soapy!). I am going to resume where I left off when the move is complete. I love the idea of using some precut rivets from the kit. Thanks for the fun chance @ the giveaway!

Congratulations Kelly!

This month I took out my sketch pad and pencils that have not seen daylight for 10 years. I did this to sketch the likeness of a young local firefighter who lost his battle with cancer, leaving a wife and two young children behind. And since I haven't sketched in 10 years I was very nervous. I've also been making jewelry for an upcoming show at a gallery in a week, and trying to finish pieces for two challenges that I entered.

Towards the end of the month I picked up a few things to work on a custom order for my etsy shop, and finished an organza peony I had started several months ago. The first thing I remember making was a seed bead bracelet (they were probably size 10 or 8) on elastic cord. I wore that for ages.
Shortly after that I learned to enamel and attended weekly classes, so there must have been lots of enameled pieces. But I don't remember anything specific, I was a teenager at the time and that was quite a while ago.

And tried to rivet, but failed.

I’ve sewn carry all bags,
Tote bags and gym bags
And stamped name tags to go with the bags

Oh RIVETING ROCKS is just awesome
It’s the prize made for me to blossom
