Color Pallet Inspiration and A GIVEAWAY!

COLOR!!!

It's that time of year when I find myself longing for more color. February weather is typically a bit drab and in order to keep my spirits and creativity up, I look to color. Luckily, it's not too hard to find. Cars, house paint, shoes...heck even Cuisinart has you covered. And jewelry, of course! There's no simpler way to splash yourself with color than a great colorful necklace (and it's way easier than painting your living room fuchsia...which I recently did!).

In celebration of color, we would like to introduce you to two of our favorite color palleting websites AND spread the love by giving away some colorful products!

There is so much inspiration on this site! Their PHOTOCOPA tool is amazing. You load a picture (from flickr or a URL) and it creates a color pallet for you, complete with hues and tones. You need to create an account to use this tool, but it is well worth it (and free!).  I created the below pallet using a picture of my daughter cartwheeling.

This simple but gorgeous site posts four pallets a day.  The pallets are innovative and incredibly inspiring. I especially like their pallet search, where you plug in a certain color and Design Seeds will suggest some pallets for you.  Notice that when you click on a pallet, the bar at the top of the site (under the navigation buttons) changes to reflect that pallet -- I love the attention to detail!  The image below is my favorite of this week's posted pallets.

With all this inspiration, let's hurry spring along by making some colorful jewelry! We went through our warehouse and chose the most colorful items available for a GIVEAWAY!

One lucky winner will receive a package of colorful Anodized Aluminum circle blanks (approx. 24 pieces) and 5 mix packs of Swarovski Crystals (approx. 375 beads)!

Two ways to enter:

  1. Leave a comment telling us your favorite source of color inspiration.
  2. Like us on Facebook! Already a fan? Leave a separate comment letting us know and we'll enter you twice.

The winner will be announced on Tuesday, February 28th at 10:00 AM PST.

I love those two sites too!

A few of my other favourites are:

http://www.colorsontheweb.com/colorwheel.asp -- spin the wheel for a random tre-colour scheme. Fun to challenge/dare yourself by resovling that you have to use the first combo you get when clicking. Or click around until you see something you like.

http://www.brandigirlblog.com/category/color-palette and http://artbeadscene.blogspot.com/search/label/color%20palette -- Brandi makes lovely palettes both on her own blog and on Art Bead Scene Blog.

http://labs.ideeinc.com/multicolr -- pick your colours (and proportions of them) and you'll get tons of inspirational photos. Won't pick colours for you as the other sites though.

I have fallen in love with Design Seeds--actually I might be considered a stalker of the site. I have not had the pleasure of visiting the Colorlover site, but thanks to you, I will be visiting there next.

I'm already a follower of your blog. Thanks for the chance to win!!!!

I'm a FB fan!!!

My color inspiration comes from several sources. First - my 8-year old daughter. I let her pick what she likes (and more often than not - the colors work well...she's a fashionista in the making..). Thank goodness she's progressed from "red, pink, purple, and blue" as being her favorite colors...

Second - I look at Pantone's color trends. Some of the colors I don't always agree with, but for those unusual colors - like Solar Power from the Spring 2012 color report...which translates to the Sunflower Swarovski crystal - ULTIMATE FAVE!! - I can visualize designs that would work best for that color and bead shape.

Third - what my clients want. When asked to create a piece for a client and it needs to be a certain color, I tend to throw in a good splash of complementary color and/or bling to make the design pop.

One of my main colour pallet inspirations for my designs is the rich colours of India, I had the chance to go for 3 months last year, and the rich reds, oranges, and golds in the markets were beautiful. I brought back some gorgeous purple/gold Swarovski rhondelles that I use for most of my pieces.

I was introduced to Design Seeds thru a beading challenge, and I just love browsing their site. Incredible inspiration. I also get lots of inspiration from hunting seashells on the beach, and walking thru the woods. I have been guilty of taking macro shots of lichen in a cemetary! :)

I love the original colour palette of nature.....each season brings a new palette, the fresh green's of spring and new blooming flowers, summer's richer and more vibrant colour's, autumn's rich red's and orange's and winter's subtle and calming white's, brown's and deep evergreen's.

My inspiration for color comes from the wonderful pictures of architecture and nature found on Pinterest. At least, that is the reason I give my hubby as to why I am always on it!

My favorite source of inspiration is photographs - of my travels, my childhood, friends and family. I also perused art books and sites. I'm especially drawn to the PreRaphaelites.

Nature is a regular fave for color inspiration . . . but around this time of the year in Michigan - you can only stare at white and gray snow! But this time of year also bring spring planing catalogs . . . . all the beautiful flowers and veggies get the senses-a-reeling! Then there's Pinterest. RedBubble (where I sell my photography) is a great spot for photography and other artsty inspirations.
