Tell me more about this recent poll to the left

Ok, well here is the deal. There are no lower case alphabet steel stamp sets in production. And apparently, it isn't easy for the companies producing upper case sets, to just add lower case into their production line (believe me, I have asked a lot of companies). So the lower case sets would have to be custom made. When they make these sets it is one stamp at a time made to our specs.

Normally if you go to a stamp company to have your own custom letter set made, it will cost you between $325 and $400. If we order 200 or more sets, the price comes down. Unfortunatley, it doesn't come down even close to what we are selling our other sets for. Those are made in high production lines by a company that sells to 100's of different distributers. Most of the distributers they sell to are not in the jewelry field so it wouldn't make sense to add a lower case set into their line.

So the sets we are looking into having made would most likely retail at $200-275.....hence the opinion poll to the left. We are trying to figure out if it would be worth our time and investment to have them produced.

I would be interested in lower case if the font was fun and playful.

My first thought is that right now might not be the right time to introduce a pricier set, given the troubles with the economy and the fears many people have about spending money. I know that I'm not spending any money on new tools or equipment these days - which is a big change from my usual habits. ;)
That said, I think you're doing absolutely the right thing by taking a poll. And, when the economy improves, it might really pay off to introduce such a versatile, one-of-kind set.

I have 3 letter sets from a a hardware company. They are very plain with sizes 1/8, 3/8 and 1/4. They are VERY inexpensive (about $10) a set, but they are not fun nor playful - just letters. I know I would not invest the amount of money you are talking about. (I'm not trying to negate your efforts - just thought I would give you the info.) IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO POST THIS - THAT'S OK - I WILL UNDERSTAND.

For what it's worth, I agree with Chris--including the not spending money right now thing. JMHO.

Thanks for the comments gang....keep 'em coming. The poll has proved to be quite interesting. If you are making and selling stamped jewelry, spending a few hundred dollars to have an interesting font is a no brainer, it will pay for itself immediately. But the production font sets out there are nice too, and money is tight these days....it'll be a tough call to make. It will be a HUGE investment for me, so I will spend my time considering it :)

I'd probably rather have a fun letter type set, or a sort of cursive set.

I agree with the other comments about a more playful and fun font. It adds more character to the stamped pieces than just a straight font.

I don't even know how to obtain a more playful font but would love to see it offered on beaducation.com.

I would definitely be interested and have seen quite a few people post in forums asking where someone could get such a set. But I do understand that the price would be a huge draw for some. It may be something that would sell slowly, but you would be the only one who had such an exclusive product, so sales would be steady. Just my thoughts! I love the idea!! thanks!

The only bummer is that it will flood the market with more sellers and for those of us that have paid a significant price for a custom set, it's quite frustrating.

A bit of a turn off as a patron who frequents your store. I'd love to see more character stamps and taking requests! :)
